HPHS Holiday Shoe Drive
The Family Legacy Club at Highland Park High School is a student-led club whose mission is to raise awareness of the needs of orphaned and vulnerable children in Zambia. All club projects are designed to raise financial support or provide tangible resources to meet these children’s needs.
For the 2022-2023 school year, the club has chosen to focus on two separate shoe drives. During the Fall semester, they will be collecting gently used sneakers/athletic shoes to benefit students at the Tree of Life residential care facility. All shoes will be collected by December 27 sorted in January ( in consideration of Tree of Life standards) and shipped to Zambia. When financial donations are received in lieu of used items, Family Legacy will use those funds to purchase new shoes for TOL students.
During the Spring semester 2023, the Family Legacy Club at Highland Park High School will conduct a fundraiser designed to supply new shoes for children in need during the 2024 Camp Life season. Funds will be collected by the end of the school year and used to make a bulk purchase of quality, lasting shoes, in size ranges appropriate to those needed at Camp Life during previous years. A sample has been ordered and research is being conducted to determine the best shoe. Family Legacy is currently considering “The Shoe That Grows,” created by Because International for kids impacted by poverty. The shoe’s claim to fame stems from having the ability to adjust and grow up to five sizes as children age. They are made from quality materials with the intent to protect vulnerable children from soil-transmitted diseases and parasites that can cause illness.
