Girls Hygiene Initiative 2022
Family Legacy has just under 5,500 girls in our program of which 4,900 are of the age and maturity level to require menstrual health products for their monthly cycles. To successfully provide an effective and sustainable solution for their needs, we have partnered with Days4Girls International to be our supplier of their patented feminine hygiene kits.
Each hygiene kit includes a care and use sheet, absorbent liners, waterproof shields, soap, undergarments, washcloths, and a transport bag for washing and storing. These products come in a variety of sizes, made to offer maximum comfort and protection. They require little water for washing and dry quickly. Their colorful fabric increases user confidence and wearable practicality. Each kit typically has a one-year lifespan for the girls in our program.
Providing hygiene products is only part of the solution. Family Legacy utilizes a team of 2 Lead Trainers and 12 Assistant Trainers from our social services department to distribute the kits to each of our young ladies, walk them through the proper use of the components and as importantly conduct health and sex education seminars at our various schools in Lusaka. After this initial distribution and education our team also reaches out to each girls’ guardians to explain the kits components, their proper use and care and to answer any questions.
Soon, we hope to start our own Days4Girls sanctioned manufacturing enterprise in Lusaka where we will train women from our schools and communities to make these reusable pads and kits. This will allow a constant source of product inventory year after year for Family Legacy’s needs and create meaningful jobs for these girls too.
The cost for our 2023 Girl’s Hygiene Initiative is $20,000 and includes
