Gabriel's Art Auction - Hill Wellness Center

Taste of Texas & Family Legacy Missions International, a Dallas-based redemptive child development organization operating in Zambia, will present an art show and auction at Taste of Texas restaurant on November 10, 2024, featuring pieces by Gabriel, a student and patient sponsored in Family Legacy's holistic care program designed to empower the orphaned and most vulnerable children in Lusaka, Zambia.

Hosts are proud to present hand-made artwork by Gabriel, a unique young man on an incredible journey to Houston, and to walk again. Gabriel grew up in the compounds of Lusaka, Zambia, and in 2018 entered Family Legacy’s program to attend school and receive care, being sponsored by the White Family of Houston after they met him at Camp Life. While residing in one of the most impoverished compounds in Lusaka, Gabriel suffered a traumatic injury that left him unable to walk without assistance and in dire need of hip surgery that was unavailable in Zambia. After five years and a recent series of fortunate events some would call a miracle, Gabriel was invited to travel to Houston to finally receive his life-changing hip replacement surgery. Thanks to the generosity of Memorial Hermann hospital and two Houston residents connected with Family Legacy, Gabriel can walk again.

Since arriving in Houston, Gabriel has enjoyed many new experiences for the very first time, leading to fun, fascinating stories, insights and creative expression. He has graciously shared his story of hope and healing to students in the area, at churches and local events. Between physical therapy sessions, Gabriel has advanced his love for painting, producing many meaningful works of art. As a show of gratitude, Gabriel has offered to auction 40 of his paintings in the US, and at his request, all proceeds will go to Family Legacy’s Hill Wellness Center in Lusaka, the non-profit clinic that has treated Gabriel for the past five years, to ensure other orphaned and vulnerable children suffering from life threatening conditions receive proper medical treatment. Everyone is welcome and lunch will be provided. www.familylegacy.com
